Creating a Wellness and Preventative society

My goal for this blog is to share my fitness, wellness journey since having a baby, while my fitness will always reign (addiction) i also highly believe in the wellness side, especially with working in the wellness sector. With this belief, i also believe in sharing the knowledge i gain from working with such amazing Chiropractors and wellness gurus. Not only have they broadened my thoughts and challenged me, frustrated me by making me feel helpless (wanting to help others and not knowing how) but they have helped educate me and helped me see the society that we live in and the future we are heading towards if this knowledge doesn't get to EVERYONE!
Everyday im challenged and frustrated (good)by this knowledge and frustrated (bad) by knowing how deeply scarred society is, and how terrible the pharmaceutical companies are - To encourage drugs and surgeries (needing more drugs) just to line their own pockets and keeping every human sick and reliant rather then well and independent from drugs. Its a disgusting misuse of authority and education and power by these companies and majority of Drs out there. My Dr for instant, hands out prescriptions quicker then  they can write them! Without proper checks or suggesting a diet change or maybe lay off the bad toxic foods and try more fresh products and exercise and stress relief etc, they simply assume whats wrong and go straight for the drugs. Making sure that we don't actually rid ourselves of whats wrong but band-aid it for a few months or so and then HAVE to come back for another issue.

Im currently reading what is quite possibly the most intriguing, informative, eye opening book into our human race and the high levels of sickness that continually keep rising despite all the so called amazing medicines out there.
What amazes me about this book (im only 24 pages in!!!) is how completely accurate and truthful the authors words are. The first couple of paragraphs i came across in this book by the author that really spoke to me were these -
'The fact is that the single greatest determinant of whether you will get sick or stay well IS YOUR LIFESTLE CHOICES. This is an INDISPUTABLE FACT. Once it is understood that how we eat, move, think and interact is the cause of Chronic illness, the fact that changing these behaviours is the only viable option to prevent and/or recover from Chronic Illness becomes self-evident. The FACT is that the only way to create a society with fewer sick people and more healthy people is to adopt lifestyle behaviours that are genetically congruent, that promote the genetic expression of health and prevent the genetic expression of unsustainable adaption, fatigue and illness'
Why have we created this life for us IF the alternative can keep us healthier? Answer - The powers above, Drs, Educators etc have lead us to believe that medicine will cure it all and we have allowed ourselves to change the natural ways of living (fresh foods, untouched products) because we think we know that if we get ill we will be fixed with a pill. That and so m
any are not familiar with the dangers or possible dangers that come with eating toxin laden foods or doing no exercise or thinking negatively. It all affects the nerves in the body which in turn can play havoc on our imune system, leaving us open to the nasties out there. To me the above is so simple, eat well, move well, think well, and interact well will make you healthy. Simple.

'The FACT is that no drug or surgery will EVER be the wellness and prevention solution for illnesses caused by malnutrition or over eating or the ingestion of toxins in our foods. No drug or surgery will EVER be the wellness or prevention solution for problems caused by sedentary living or poor physical fitness. No drug or surgery will EVER be the wellness or prevention solution for problems caused by lack of self esteem, lack of life satisfaction or lack of positive attitudes, thoughts, emotions and social relationships'
This one i think is simply education  - we all think that some drugs or a surgery will heal our issues, only to have it spread, reappear or take form of another illness. Drugs and Surgery will never be the answer. But until we all accept our body as an amazing tool and we start fueling it with what it needs rather then what it doesn't, we will never see that our body can heal itself without the need for harsh chemicals or unnecessary surgeries.

I have never been one to pop a headache pill or take antibiotics. I have always tried to live well - Have had some major bumps in the road that has lowered my immune system and allowed me to get sicker quicker then anyone i know, but always refused medication as i gym and play sport so outwardly I have always been fit and healthy so why ruin my insides with antibiotics or medication? I have always tried seeking alternative options prior to a Dr visit. Since receiving regular Chiropractic adjustments i don't get sick, for someone who was sick weekly, im still in a state of shock, but as im gaining more and more knowledge i am seeing how possible it is to live a life without illness! Who doesn't want that!

Working with Chiropractors who believe so highly in wellness and allowing the body to heal i have picked up a few things - One is from one of our Drs here  - Dr Adam Smith, who while being a Chiropractor is also a wellness guru and published author - Knows his stuff. His common way to describe his role is this  -
'Chiropractors see the Human Body as a self healing system that will get better if the interference to that healing is removed. A common site of interference is surrounding the spine, hence this is why Chiropractors focus on your nervous system'
For one who hasn't seen a Chiropractor before will assume its about cracking the back and/or neck. Chiropractors don't crack backs or necks, they correct the spine's movement. Correcting the problem areas, maintaining these visits and removing that interference, allows the body to self heal, lifts the immune system by 400% and helps you feel, for lack of a better word - Well.

Chiropractic, alternative options from Drs or drugs and a healthy active life is for anyone and everyone regardless of age! Never to young or to old to change your habits and live a happy healthy, fullfilling, well life! My 17 month old son Jackson now attends a chiropractor weekly, maintains an active play life and eats well and the change in him is fantastic, i have a baby who can now fight off most niggly bugs that surround the childcare system! Who doesn't want that!

The ups and downs of parenthood

So tonight I read a sweet little note - meant to be written by a small child to their parents- it was spot on and brought a tear to my eye.
The gist was that everything that is happening now, the tantrums, the nightly wake ups, the carrying, the wiping a dirty face, separation anxiety etc will soon go, the things that we as parents find challenging or frustrating will go and will leave us wishing we had of enjoyed the moment, no matter how exhausting or tough or hard it may have been.
We never want our kids to grow up or to at least slow down the growing up yet we may scold, or yell, or smack or time out or remove toys etc when the child is naughty or whinge about changing nappies after you have already changed 10 that day, or be annoyed when your own sleep is disrupted by a crying, restless child - who has probably just had bad dream or is cold or thirsty or just wants a cuddle- instead we see all of this as an interruption into our time, our sleep, our rest, our day off. Most parents that read this may say they are the worlds greatest parents who never feel this way but the honest ones will have felt this way, once or twice.
While i don't think it's a bad thing to ever feel frustrated or exhausted and unable to handle another public tantrum I think we forget that it's just a stage and it will pass ( not that this helps at 2 in the morning and you have run on no sleep from the night before), the waking at night for little reasons will soon pass, they will be able to get themselves a drink, or pull their blankets back up onto themselves.
I have most definitely felt frustrated and exhausted after an interrupted sleep, I have felt annoyed when Jackson has whinged and whinged or wouldn't stop crying. Of course I have! I'm human, I feel and i stress, not to mention this is the first time I've been a mum, every stage Jackson goes through is brand new and terrifying. My next child, I may be one of those mums who just goes from stage to stage knowing what will happen and how to handle it! How I envy those mums. The ones that know it all! How many kids does that take? To be a professional mum? Who know every stage, know every way to deal with it? Please say its just two! Otherwise god help my kids.
There have been times that I've thrown my arms in the air and wondered what the hell am I doing wrong, why isn't he listening to me, why doesn't he understand me, what can i do to stop the whinging! Jackson is the sweetest, most loving child and well behaved but damn can he throw a tantrum and whinge when he wants to! I step back and know it has to be just as frustrating for him to not be able to get across what he wants or needs as it is for me to try work out what he wants when he is whinging.
Despite the occasional corner sitting where I'm rocking back and forth I know that I will look back at these hard times and miss them, want them back, relive the nights he was sick and just wanted cuddles, the nights where he just wanted to play ALL NIGHT and the days when he would chuck tantrums cause he wanted to explore but wasn't allowed for safety reasons or when he just wanted to be glued to me, no one else would do.

They grow to fast and although the current stage may be difficult, they are your child, be patient, be supportive and by all means drink copious amounts of wine once they are in bed, but remember, it is all going to be gone in such a short time after all they grow up so fast, to fast to sit and worry about a tantrum or lack of sleep. Enjoy every minute, know your not alone in your feelings, take a break yes, but love your child, cuddle your child, enjoy every filthy nappy, endure every tantrum with a smile,
teach your child words (good words) and live in the moment with your creation, it happens once with that particular child, don't waste it.
On that note, I'm going to to sneak a cuddle from my sleeping baby before he wakes up. ;)
